Handcart Pioneers In 1846 the first Latter-Day Saint pioneers left Nauvoo, Illinois in search of religious freedom. They traveled 1300 miles on the Mormon Trail to the Great Salt Lake Valley. During the next 22 years an estimated 68,000 pioneers followed, using handcarts and covered wagons. 3,000 immigrants used handcarts because they were more cost efficient and could travel twice as fast as an ox-driven wagon. The pioneers were a faith driven people who endured many hardships, but remained strong in their convictions of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Their example of sacrifice formed a strong foundation for generations to follow. 5 piece set, made out of safe, durable Vinyl. Figures stand 2" - 2 1/2" tall. Safty test for ages 4 and up.
